Beyond its religious significance, the month of Ramadan holds a special place for us as it brings people together around the dinner table. From large family gatherings to iftar tables for friends we haven’t seen in a while, creating a stylish dining table for everyone can be done with just four simple steps!
1. Table Arrangement
For a pleasant dining experience, ensure guests can move freely around the table and easily reach everything they need. A table where people constantly bump elbows and struggle to reach items will detract from the enjoyment. Plan the table arrangement in advance, ensuring at least a 10 cm space between each guest for comfortable movement.
2. Plan Your Menu
Selecting the right menu is always crucial for any gathering, especially for an iftar dinner during Ramadan. Remember that your guests will have fasted all day, so plan accordingly. But most importantly, choose a menu that allows you, as the host, to sit at the table with your guests. Select a meal that’s easy to serve, so you can enjoy their company without constantly tending to the table.
3. Tablecloth
A welcoming table starts with an inviting tablecloth, and it’s completed by the delicious dishes you serve. The tablecloth is your main decorative piece, so choose it thoughtfully to complement your dinnerware. For example, if you have a heavily patterned dinner set, balance it with a simpler tablecloth to create harmony.
4. Decor that Matches Your Menu
With your menu set and tablecloth chosen, it’s time to decide on a theme for added elegance and cohesion. This theme will not only elevate your table’s style but also help you make decor decisions. You might choose a seasonal theme, such as autumn, or a floral theme. If you go with a floral theme, consider using floral-patterned napkins, pastel-toned dinnerware, and perhaps even floating small flowers in water glasses. You can also add floral-inspired beverages to your menu, like rose or poppy sherbet, to enhance the theme.
